Congratulations, you’ve done the hard part, and have now collected the keys for your beautiful new home. Now, what are the little jobs people often forget, to make the first few days in your new home as stress-free as possible?

Change Your address

First things first; any financial, governmental, motoring and health services should be informed of your new address. Royal Mail can set up a redirection for any post, so you won’t miss out on any vital correspondence - you wouldn’t want to miss out on all that junk mail, now would you?

Power

Who has the power? The answer to that should be you. Ensure you inform the utility companies that you will be moving and have an account set up ready for when you move in. Same goes for wi-fi and any TV packages you will be subscribing to, as they tend to have long waiting lists for installations.

Change the locks

I’m sure everyone has a collection of mystery keys in the drawer, to random house’s up and down the country, most of which stay sitting undisturbed for years. However, this does mean you probably don’t know who has potential access to your property. Change the locks, then you know exactly who has a set of keys.

Clean the carpets

If you’re like me, it takes you a while to feel clean and comfortable in your new home, and a clean carpet can make all the difference! It’s a lot easier to get your carpets cleaned before you move all your furniture in, whether it be using your own steam cleaner or getting a professional in.

Check the smoke alarms

We all know how exciting health and safety is, but, taking the time to do this is worth your while - check all smoke alarm and CO2 detectors are working properly. Make sure there are enough and in suitable positions for your new property. It only takes a second, and it could save your life. #TestItTuesday
